design process
For our first step in redesigning Pizza Hut’s site to white background, me and another senior designer had to work with the internal design team and go through individual pages to make sure which screens needed reskinning and/or better enhancement. After documenting all the pages through site mapping and informational architecture, we were able to task out our responsibilities. I was mainly responsible in reskinning and enhancing the checkout experience for Pizza Hut making sure that not only was the background white and had updated components but features were redesigned on some pages since they were not user-friendly and caused cart abandonment. Some examples were using too many tabs/toggles on the page without being streamlined, require/optional fields were not displayed correctly, and there was too much white space not being utilized for a better visual experience.
After the enhancement to the white background was coming to an end, our next task was to redesign an adaptive version of the pizza builder. This came with many versions of iterations, weekly a/b testing on usertesting.com, daily design pow-wows with the director of Pizza Hut and design team, and constant sync up with product owners to make sure user stories were up to date for the developers.
Fortunately, Pizza Hut was bringing back one of their deals they’ve had success in past years which is the $5 Lineup: Pizza and More deal. The original designs were very outdated and needed a boost of change. I was the main designer on the team responsible for this redesign project.
My first take was to go through all international Pizza Hut sites and create a heuristic evaluation presentation on how different or similar countries showed this specific popular deal on their site. After presenting the heuristic evaluation to the design team, the director of Pizza Hut wanted the blue sky version for this popular deal and so I went to town to create multiple conceptual versions.
Months after redesigning the popular deals page, it was successfully launched and shown on the Pizza Hut site.
